Summer Volunteer Orientation

Plant Chicago would be nothing without our volunteers!

We offer various volunteer opportunities Saturdays from 10 am – 5 pm. This summer, we’ll be building soil out in the yard using spent grain and other composting methods, tending to the chickens, shaping our outdoor hugel garden, cleaning and maintaining our aquaponic system, and swinging into our outdoor farmers market season.

Ongoing volunteer opportunities include aquaponic farm maintenance, farmers market setup/take down, giving tours, community outreach, admin tasks, and assistance with educational programming such as closed loop labs and tours.

Our volunteer orientation consists of a brief explanation of The Plant, as well as examples of volunteer tasks. You’ll also sign a waiver form and get acquainted with the building and Plant Chicago staff.

If you are under 18 and would like to volunteer, we will need your parent/guardian to sign our waiver form. You must be 16+ to volunteer with Plant Chicago.

Once oriented, feel free to join us any Saturday for one of the following shifts: 10 am – 1 pm, 2 pm – 5 pm or the full day 10 am – 5 pm (full day volunteers, please pack a lunch!).

Please keep in mind that The Plant is an active construction area and place of business. So, dress accordingly! Close-toed shoes are required, along with clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.

Feel free to reach out with any questions at or check out our Facebook and website for information!
