Volunteer Orientation

Plant Chicago would be nothing without our volunteers!

We offer various volunteer opportunities Saturdays from 10 am – 4 pm. Activities include composting, tending to the chickens, shaping our outdoor hugel garden, cleaning and maintaining the aquaponic system, and continuing the farmers market season.

Ongoing volunteer opportunities include aquaponic farm maintenance, farmers market setup/take down, community outreach, admin tasks, and assistance with educational programming such as closed loop labs and adult workshops.

Our volunteer orientation consists of a brief explanation of The Plant and Plant Chicago programming, as well as examples of volunteer tasks. You’ll sign a waiver form and get acquainted with the building and some of Plant Chicago’s volunteers and staff.

If you are under 16 and would like to volunteer, we’ll need your parent/guardian to sign our waiver form. People 15 and younger must be accompanied by a guardian or adult chaperon while volunteering.

Once oriented, feel free to join us any Saturday for one of the following shifts: 10 am – 1 pm, 2 pm – 4 pm or the full day 10 am – 4 pm (please pack a lunch or plan on purchasing lunch if you stay for the full day).

Please keep in mind that The Plant is an active construction site and place of business. So, dress accordingly! Close-toed shoes are required, along with clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated!

Feel free to reach out with any questions at info@plantchicago.org or check out our Facebook for more information!
