Spring Volunteer Orientation

Plant Chicago would be nothing without our volunteers!

We offer various volunteer opportunities Saturdays from 10 am – 5 pm.

This spring, we’ll be building soil out in the yard using spent grain and other composting methods, tending to the chickens, shaping our outdoor hugel garden, cleaning and maintaining our aquaponic system and prepping for the outdoor farmers market season.

Ongoing volunteer opportunities include aquaponic farm maintenance, mushroom fruiting chamber harvest/cleaning, farmers market setup/take down, giving tours, community outreach and assistance with our educational programming.

Our volunteer orientation consists of a brief tour of The Plant, as well as introductions and examples of volunteer tasks. You’ll also sign a waiver form and get acquainted with the building and Plant Chicago staff.

If you are under 18 and would like to volunteer, we will need your parent/guardian to sign our waiver form. You must be 16+ to volunteer with Plant Chicago.

Once oriented, feel free to join us any Saturday for one of the following shifts:

10 am – 1 pm
2 pm – 5 pm
10 am – 5 pm (full day volunteers are welcome to join us for a free vegan lunch).

Please keep in mind that The Plant is an active construction area and place of business. So, dress accordingly! Close-toed shoes are required, along with clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.

Feel free to reach out with any questions at info@plantchicago.org or check out our Facebook for information!
