Volunteer Orientation

Plant Chicago would be nothing without our volunteer community.

The orientation will introduce you to Plant Chicago’s mission, vision, programs, staff, and key volunteer leaders. This fall, volunteers will be working on building out our outdoor hugelkultur garden, maintaining and caring for our chickens, cleaning/harvesting our indoor aquaponic system, assisting with special events, and organizing our monthly farmers markets at The Plant.

We offer volunteer opportunities every Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm, with additional volunteer hours available on market days and during special events. Volunteers sign up in advance for a volunteer shift on our Google spreadsheet, which will be shared with you after attending the orientation.

Volunteers should wear clothing they’re alright with getting dirty and closed toed shoes. Remember to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and a lunch if you plan on volunteering all day.

If you are younger than 18 years of age, we do require a parent or guardian signature on our waiver form. Volunteers younger than the age of 14 should be accompanied by an adult for their volunteer shift. As a 501(c)3 non-profit, we verify and offer volunteer service hours for students.

Feel free to reach out with any questions via email at info@plantchicago.org or call our office at (773) 847-5523. Hope to see you soon!
