Volunteer Orientation

Plant Chicago would be nothing without our volunteers!

We offer various volunteer opportunities Saturdays from 10 am – 4 pm. This winter, we’ll be building soil out in the yard using spent grain and other composting methods, tending to the chickens, shaping our outdoor hugel garden, cleaning and maintaining our aquaponic system, and continuing our indoor farmers market season.

Ongoing volunteer opportunities include aquaponic farm maintenance, farmers market setup/take down, giving tours, community outreach, admin tasks, and assistance with educational programming such as closed loop labs and tours.

Our volunteer orientation consists of a brief explanation of The Plant, as well as examples of volunteer tasks. You’ll also sign a waiver form and get acquainted with the building and Plant Chicago staff.

If you are under 18 and would like to volunteer, we will need your parent/guardian to sign our waiver form. You must be 16+ to volunteer with Plant Chicago.

Once oriented, feel free to join us any Saturday for one of the following shifts: 10 am – 1 pm, 2 pm – 5 pm or the full day 10 am – 4 pm (please pack a lunch or plan on purchasing lunch at The Plant if you stay for the full day).

Please keep in mind that The Plant is an active construction site and place of business. So, dress accordingly! Close-toed shoes are required, along with clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated!

Feel free to reach out with any questions at info@plantchicago.org or check out our Facebook for more information!
