While interning at Plant Chicago, I got to write things that I was actually interested in. The largest piece I wrote was a blog called Sustainability in the Fashion Industry where I explored not only the things that people are doing wrong in the fashion industry, but I also spoke to people who are doing the right thing in fashion, meaning they are focused on circularity. Oftentimes “saving the plant” centers a really depressing message. It was good to write something positive, something about the good that is happening in our world. That is kind of the theme of what I enjoyed about interning at Plant Chicago. The organization is focused on not only why our current system is bad, but how to change it.
My internship also gave me the opportunity to write short form content such as Instagram captions. This is something I have done in the past but do not have a ton of experience with. It was definitely an exercise in condensing my writing and figuring out what is the most important thing to say.
I really enjoyed working at Plant Chicago. I loved getting to know more about the circular economy. I also enjoyed getting to know the staff more and what they were doing. Everyone was super nice and helpful to me. I got to see first-hand all the hard work that goes into each and every event. On Saturdays, when we would have our big events, I loved working as a team with everyone.
I learned a lot about myself as a writer. Turns out I really like the editing process.
Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Plant Chicago. I have definitely grown a lot as a writer and professional.
